First PCS Move updateOn May 4, 2018 by Chelsianne
Well, we did it.
We made our first PCS move, just the two of us, and I have to say Watertown is quite lonely. I am used to walking around my suburban neighborhood with the puppy and seeing the same faces I’ve seen since I was a kid. Don’t get me wrong, people have come and gone but the core of the neighborhood has stayed the same. I bought my first car from our neighbor on Christmas day, and that house has been my home for 18 years.
Now, here I am with the husband in the middle of nowhere with only a single person to call a friend, minus the girl I babysit for. Just let it sink in. Breath in breath out, it’ll all be okay … Right?
I’ve often sat down in the bitter, cold morning with a warm mug of coffee laced between my fingers wondering how people do this. Maybe they get better first stations than Fort Drum!! The station where people hear the name and fall silent for a second then say, “I’m sure it’s not as bad as they say … nah, it’s probably worse, I am so sorry for you.” Yeah, they weren’t kidding.
Finding a job up here has proved quite the challenge, and I assure you the husband and I are both being driven mad by the idea of me home all day.
In the end, it’s important to remember, it’s not forever only another year and a half. We can do this, before I know it we’ll be making the trip back to sunny Florida and out of this frozen wasteland. Oh and you can bet I’ll be visiting before this chapter of my life comes to a close. There are actually a few internships I would love to have down there, and hey the husband is deploying for 8 months close to the end of the year so maybe I’ll be done there for a bit and can catch up with everyone and work towards my big girl career.
Ta-ta for now,
